I have never been east of Texas. I am planning a trip to DC this spring, but before that day i have never crossed the wide Mississippi. I have been to about every state west of Texas. I have seen both Dakotas, Wyoming, Nebraska, Oregon and Idaho. I have seen about every part of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and California. I have done cart-wheels into 4 different states at the same time (shout out to 4 corners) But, i have never been east. This haunts me because one of my dying wishes and life long goals is to see real life fireflies. They fascinate me. I would love to run around at twilight and catch some in a mason jar. This is one of my heart's desires. It may sound random and weird, but hey this is me we are talking about. I find the idea of walking through a field of fireflies to be dreamy and romantic. Its just a matter of time before i head to the south to find some, and pick up post cards along the way. I don't know what, and i don't know how but i know something is starting right now, watch and you'll see some day I'll be part of their world!
If you know me then you also know about my strange fascination with Machu Picchu in Peru. If i could go any where in the entire world i would go there. The idea of hiking up there and seeing that vista and walking in and around those ancient structures is very appealing to me. I would want to get lost there, or spend the night there and explore for days. As long as there are no giant spiders. I want to go before they build a tram to the top, before it gets trampled by more tourists as it becomes more easily accessible. I have always wanted to go there ever since i learned about it in Spanish Class in 6th grade. I carry pictures of it around with me. When i hiked around Uxmal in Mexico it just strengthened my longing to go farther south and explore in Peru. Friends invite me to go on foreign cruises or travel to Australia or New Zealand. I won't go, not until i see Machu Picchu first. Hell or high water i am going. Who is with me?

I'm so with you. Peru sounds awesome. I also have to say, fireflies (or "lightning bugs") are totally great too. We got them in DC and Philly and I would get so excited (Brian didn't understand at all). One time we walked by a vacant lot that was filled to the brim with fireflies. It looked like a secret fairy hollow.
Count me in! My parents went to Peru for their honeymoon and I've wanted to go since I laid eyes on those photos. After that, I could use someone to go with me to Australia to pet tigers. And you have to visit Texas with me at least once, to counter your NM stereotypes. We have fireflies in Austin. :)
